Services over goods — the member-guest version

Guests buy service, not SKUs. Week-of is walking, pins, dinner timing — not another merch table.

In the club business, members and guests have been emphasizing services over goods for years. The member-guest is where that sentence becomes a staffing plan.

Goods are the shirt, the headcover, the bottle. Services are: the bag is where it should be. The pin sheet matches the course. Dinner starts when the last group can actually sit. Someone who knows the guest’s name is on the first tee.

A table of leftover SKUs is a goods strategy. It photographs. It does not travel home as a story.

Week-of is a service product

Ninety days out you can still order like a host. Week-of you can only execute. Coordinators who treat week-of as shopping finish Sunday with boxes. Coordinators who treat week-of as walking the course finish Sunday with a week that felt expensive.

Hole-location sheets are the service the field actually plays. If the sheet is late or the numbers move, the week feels sloppy before the shotgun — long before anyone notices the gift. See hole-location sheets.

Formats are a service too. Saturday can survive a sloppy format. Sunday cannot. The week ends when the last match still means something.

F&B is service with a plate

Guests remember the room and whether they were hungry on 14. They do not remember the third food station. That is not a foodie lecture. It is a labor and waste line. One room done well beats three stations that ran out. More in F&B that makes a week feel expensive.

From the field, not a theory

The catalog is 1233 published stills. Themes show up in the names — “Beefsteak” Member-Guest, “Clambake” Member-Guest, Men’s “Surf & Turf” Member Guest, Chianti Classic. The still is never the pin sheet. Plan the thing the photo cannot show.

If the free pages are not enough, the written plan is the service: budget, format, week-of flow. One event. Services.
